SLOW DOWN - MAVERICK SABRE FT. JORJA SMITH, DIR. RASHID BABIKER PROD. HANNAH BELLIL - PRETTYBIRD, Alexa, Master Primes

We wanted to grow this performance video into something richer in subtext and off-camera narrative, evoking American cinema classics shot in New York, LA. Set in a pre-Uber world, Jorja performs initially into her cell phone to a third un-known character, blurring the narrative and meaning of the lyrics; we wanted to gently ramp up the surreal with our lighting. We chose a particularly bright route around Old Street and Finsbury Circus so that real life lighting conditions could play into the lighting effects I designed with gaffer Elliot Beach for the low-loader mounted car. We shot on Zeiss Master Primes wide open with a high ISO which, combined with the 35mm print LUT supplied by colourist Toby Tomkins at Cheat, created a great filmic feel.
